Xiu Xiu - Dear God, I Hate Myself (2010)
Sounds Like: A man constantly on the verge of commiting suicide
Review: Another album of morbidly depressing songs from the sensation that is Xiu Xiu, fronted by Singer/Songwriter Jamie Stewart they are a constant reminder that some people have it worse then you, and that none have it worse then Jamie Stewart. What actually happened to make this man so excruciatingly disturbed I don't know, but I do know that I love to hear him complain about it because he does it so wonderfully.
The album opens with the song "Gray Death" and this sets the tone for the whole record with the first words sang being "Beat, beat, beat me to death". The next song is "Chocolate Makes You Happy" which is a lovely lament on bulimia with my favourite lyric being "Chocolate makes you happy, as you deign to sing along, when you thrust two fingers down your throat and wash away what's wrong, Oh Oh Oh". The album continues you on with more great songs and some more great lyrics with the title song being a particular favourite of mine "Despeir will hold a place in my heart, a bigger one that you do do do, and I will always be nicer to the cat, then I am to you you you."
I highly reccommend this album to anyone who enjoys to listen to someone pouring his heart out, or likes the sound of what seems to have come from an nintendo DS on their albums. Check it out!
